A: A smoothbore can fire a sabot slug, but it's super innacurate. The projectile keyholes, i.e. flies sideways. This one minute video gives an awesome demonstration of what happens when you run a sabot through a smoothbore: youtube.com/watch?v=C53nTN4A7yc

A: The diameter is approximately .79" and BC ranges wildly. Shotgun slugs will typically have a horrible BC and many manufacturers do not provide data. Many are considered 6MOA at 50 yards and some never achieve that good a grouping.
A shotgun slug is not a precision rifle and will never be able to compete against one, even at close distances.
