In a hunting situation, such a combination gives you more reach and better patterning and makes it easier to stalk your quarry since you won't have to get quite as close. You'll only get one shot either way, so the recoil isn't that big of a deal.
While this ammo can be used for home defense, it is almost too powerful for this purpose in all but the most rural areas and will readily overpenetrate. Its stiff recoil also becomes more of a downside since you won't be able to make the follow up shots that a self-defense situation sometimes requires.
Winchester Double-X shotshells are loaded in Oxford, Mississippi using high quality powders and polymer Grex buffers. The buffers work well with the copper-plated shot to reduce the chance of "flyers" straying from the pattern and wasting their energy.
