These shells use copper plated shot for better patterning. In comparison to bare lead shot, copper-plated pellets resist deformation and retain their spherical shape better when the shell is fired. This helps them stay on target and reduces the chance of "flyers" straying wildly outside the pattern.
This ammunition produces significant recoil and is not designed for home defense, where multiple follow-up shots might be needed.
