Hornady optimized this cartridge for varmints and predators by giving it a 110 grain V-MAX. The bullet’s relatively light weight means it is supersonic, and it complements that flat trajectory with its super balanced swaged lead core and copper jacket, its streamlined, low-drag profile, and the symmetrical polymer tip that forms its meplat.

The V-MAX’s tip isn’t just there for accuracy’s sake. It actually dangles down into a precision formed well in the core, so it stores up a great deal of energy beginning at the moment of impact. When the tip ultimately does connect with the core, it creates violent fragmentation and one heck of a nasty wound channel. Varmints and predators will wish they had skulked on someone else’s property.

This Custom load’s high tech bullet is complemented by Hornady’s own precision tapered brass, which is supple enough to chamber effectively yet strong enough to reload several times. This round’s primer and propellant are both optimized to deliver consistent cycling and ballistic performance, and they burn clean to preserve a rifle out in the field.
