A Shootable, Reliable Fight Stopper
Review by Wagonmaster. (Posted on 2/10/16)
Having the bad luck to be released after the .44 Magnum became a star, the .41 Remington Mag spent years as an orphan cartridge despite great results stopping fights for the SF and San Antonio PDs. With the resurgence of revolvers chambered for this beauty, especially lighter weight concealed carry and trail guns, demand has increased for a lighter load than those customarily used in the all-steel, longer barreled guns of the '60s. I've found that Winchester's 175 gr STHP delivers great stopping power and flat-shooting accuracy with very manageable recoil even in revolvers using lots of alloy like the S&W Night Guard. I now use the same round in my full-size Smith model 57 house gun which was formerly stoked with the hard-to-handle 210 gr "street load": one of the reasons this otherwise fine caliber fell out of favor with LEO. Coupled with more carry-friendly frames, Winchester's 175 gr STHP should encourage many more SD shooters to rely on (and practice with!) this proven fight-stopper. I recommend it highly!
