Details

This 500 round case of Federal's "XM556NT1" is highly sought after as a practice round due to its use in high volume law enforcement training applications. As one of Federal's classic options, this 5.56mm cartridge profile features a copper-plated primer for reduced toxicity at indoor ranges; this plating is also harder and provides "peace of mind" resistance to the free-floating firing pin of an AR-15 or M4 pattern rifle. Each primer is fitted to an reloadable brass casing which has been annealed at the neck and shoulder to prevent splitting which could deadline a gun and bring training to a halt.

Crowning each cartridge is a sintered, soft point projectile with a toothed cannelure which enhances crimp stability for more consistent accuracy. Upon impact, this bullet is designed to flatten out while causing the rest of the round to shatter into powder and fragments which reduces the risk of ricochet when using steel targets or bullet traps. Each bullet weighs in at 50 grains but comes loaded in front of a slightly hotter charge which replicates the recoil impulse and flight characteristics of most "social" rounds.

Federal Premium is not only known for their extensive work in training and defense ammunition, but for products which support competitive shooting sports and age-old hunting practices. Their stringent inspection criteria and amazing quality control have been trusted to keep streets safer, to put food on dinner plates, and to bring home Olympic gold medals.
