Federal is a US-based ammo company with a history going back to the 1920s. They make a wide variety of target, hunting, and self defense loads for just about any application you can think of. Along with CCI and Speer and some other quality ammo brands, Federal is a part of the ATK parent company.
Federal produces several rimfire loads, and today, we're looking at the Federal Champion value pack. This 525 round box has enough ammo to keep you shooting for hours. The round features a 36-grain, copper-plated lead hollow point bullet. Out of a rifle barrel, it exits the muzzle at around 1,260 feet per second. This combination of high velocity with an expanding bullet makes the Federal Champion value pack load suitable for planking and target shooting, as well as small game hunting and pest control.
High velocity rounds are ideal for cycling semi-autos, but hollow point bullets will occasionally cause some issues. We tried out this ammo in six different guns to see how well it would feed. Our rifles had no problems at all, and the handguns worked most of the time too. We did have one or two light primer strikes, but feeding and injection issues were almost nonexistent, even in our .22 caliber Glock conversion kit, which typically doesn't like hollow point bullets.
Our unmodified Marlin .795 is the go-to gun for accuracy testing, so we tried a 10 shot group from the bench at 50 yards. Most of our rounds landed in a little one-inch group just to the right of the bulls-eye, with a couple of flyers hitting closer to the point of aim, which may have been shooter-induced error. If you intend to use this ammo for hunting, just test it with your gun first to make sure it will send the rounds exactly where you need them to go.
For planking and casual target shooting, this kind of accuracy is usually more than adequate. There are a lot of choices out there for these big bulk packs of .22 ammo, and for the most part, each one is a little different. If you're looking for an inexpensive round that can be used for shooting cans as well as varmints, then the Federal Champion value pack might be what you're looking for.

After shooting approx 1000 rounds so far I've had less than 5 fail to shoot rounds. This ammo is very reliable and consistent in accuracy. I'm shooting them in a Ruger SR22 semi-auto. I've had several Fail To Feed but that's not the fault of the ammo. Highly recommended for target shooting or general plinking and it's a great value per round. (Posted on 11/19/12)Performance Value Quality - It doesn't get any better than this Review by Mike T.

I have used this ammo for years in rifles and pistols. It cycles properly in all my guns and is fairly accurate. For the price you can't get better .22LR ammo!! (Posted on 11/13/12)Performance Value Quality - Very Nice Review by Vicki Vail

I've shot over 500 rounds of this ammo so far and probably had 3 FTF (fail to fire) rounds (less than 1%). For the price it's hard to beat. The accuracy is well within expectations for target shooting and I can't wait to shoot the other 4750 rounds. I'm mostly shooting from a Ruger SR22 semi-auto (new gun). This ammo is great for plinking. (Posted on 11/11/12)Performance Value Quality - Great ammo Review by Hal

I've put about 100 rounds through my 10/22, everything worked great. (Posted on 10/1/12)Performance Value Quality - Becoming a Rifleman Review by APPLESEED Instructor
-
This is some good ammo at a Great price. In the RWVA Appleseed Project we teach rifle marksmanship and the students must shoot about 500 rds per weekend. For most, it will take them many Appleseeds to attain the 210 or higher score (EXPERT) and earn the Rifleman Patch and begin the long road to becoming an Instructor. Just one of these orders of 5250 rds of reliable, clean, and inexpensive 22LR ammo goes a long way to learning the six steps to firing the shot. This is the ammo I used years ago to earn my patch and become an Instructor and I still keep at least 10,000 on hand for my practice.Performance Value Quality
LUCKYGUNNER has the best price and very fast shipping too.
This is a premium 22LR ammo and can be used for small game, target practice and just good old FUN!
I have had a few "FTF"s, but this was after I shot over 500 rds through one of my Ruger 10/22's without a cleaning. I have never found another brand of 22LR that could do the same. Even my AR15 22 conversion loves this ammo and she is very picky! BUY A BUNCH OF THIS and I'll see you at an Appleseed! (Posted on 9/18/12) - Great Review by hollywood533

I've used many thousands of these in my 1973 Ruger 10/22, very few FTFs, no FTEs and no squibs or stovepipes. (Posted on 6/26/12)Quality Performance Value - Good Ammo for Target Practice Review by 5467jeep

I was only out to purchase CCI rounds but ended up trying this ammo. Me and my son have ran over 1000 rounds through a S&W 15-22 and lever action Mossberg without one misfire. I recommend this ammo to anyone who likes to plink! Thanks Lucky Gunner for the price and on time delivery!! (Posted on 5/26/12)Quality Performance Value - This ammo is phenomenal. (22 LR - 36 gr CPHP - Federal Champion - 5250 Rounds) Review by Nick
-
Everybody knows to expect 1 or 2 FTF/FTE with the .22LR ammo ... right? Think again. My first order of 5250 rounds is history as well as half of the second one. I am still waiting to experience a single problem with 36 gr CPHP - Federal Champion. My CZ75 kadet loves it.Performance Value Quality
Cons: It doesn't say it loves me back ... and ... when I open a box with 525 rounds, I don't go home before it's empty ... sometimes it may take 3 hours.

I use this in ALL my 22s from a Henry lever to a Ruger 22/45. Very dependable and accurate. I do get an occasional flyer when shooting for groups so gave it a 4 for performance. For the price it can't be beat! (Posted on 4/1/12)Performance Value Quality - Love It Review by Gary
-
I shoot ALOT of .22 ammo, went out today and put 50 rounds through a hole you can cover w/a silver dollar @ 75 yards w/ my henry .22 lever action sporting a 3 by 9 barska, Very accurate, no duds, very clean shooting. Also is the only ammo that DON'T jam in my mark2 Ruger.... Love it!! (Posted on 3/4/12)Performance Value Quality - Federal 22 LR Review by Steve

We had a .22 caliber Christmas this year, all my boys got a .22 rifle!! We have shot about a thousand rounds of this ammo with no jams, feed failures, dud rounds. We are shooting from bolt-action, pump, semi auto and revolver platforms, all function flawlessly! (Posted on 1/12/12)Performance Value Quality - Excellent cheap ammo Review by vtstik
-
This ammo is great. No jams or misfeeds in over 1050 rounds fired. costs about as much as 500 rounds of .45 ammo.... so go figure, what would you be better off shooting to maintain your eye, and trigger technique?Performance Value Quality
You can't go wrong with these bulk packs. I'll be back for more when I run out. (Posted on 12/27/11) - 22 LR - 36 gr CPHP - Federal Champion Review by kyp3ayecku

I got my 5250 Rounds last week, so I went to the range on Saturday. I spent 3 hr there shooting 525 rd with CZ-75 kadet. With the .22lr caliber one usually expect 1 or 2% duds FTF, FTL or FTE ... NOT with this ammo ... not a single problem. I am very happy.Performance Value Quality
