- this is the 8M3 "Effect" hollowpoint bullet that works Review by Fwank
This is the only jacketed hollowpoint bullet in 7.62x39mm that consistently expands and fragments in clothed calibrated 10% ballistic gelatin. In such testing typically it fragments violently, losing about half its weight, but retaining enough mass to penetrate 17-18" and the stub of the bullet is still expanded to between .45" and .50" in most instances. This level of performance is on par with most expanding-bullet .30-30 deer hunting loads, and by all accounts it performs quite well on whitetail deer also.
Unlike so many of the steel-jacketed softpoint and hollowpoint bullets loaded in Russian ammunition made for export to the US, this one actually works, consistently and reliably. It was designed for Russian law enforcement use. That they export it is fortunate for us.
In my opinion this is the very best self-defense/antipersonnel load available in 7.62x39mm, if your gun feeds them. (Posted on 12/9/12)
