- Excellent Chest Rig Review by JDog
-
In summary, this is an excellent chest rig. I highly recommend it. Now for the details...Performance Value Quality
Quality is top notch. This rig is built to last. The stitching is well done (no sloppy or crooked stitching). The velcro on the ammo pouches is good quality and is stitched onto the pouches and flaps not only on the top, bottom, and sides but down the middle, which should increase its durability. The ammo pouches not only have good-sized drainage grommets, but are reinforced on the bottom with heavier material. The flaps of the ammo pouches are even more robust. They provide excellent protection for magazines. The two pistol mag pouches have adjustable flaps to accomodate differently sized pistol mags. These have drainage grommets, too.
Fit and function are great. The magazine pouches fit two AK mags each. I've got Bulgarian Circle-10 mags, which have the waffle pattern, and these fit well side-by-side in the pouches. The magazine pouches also fit two AR mags...perfectly. I am not sure why this chest rig comes in two different configurations (AK and AR) since this AK chest rig works for both. I love the wide shoulder straps...very comfortable. A nice touch is that the shoulder straps and the waist strap have "strap keepers." These are one-inch elastic bands that secure the loose strap ends so they don't flop around.
I've shopped around quite a bit for AK chest rigs, and one thing that appeals to me about the Blackhawk! is its simplicity. Many rigs out there have too many feature for me. I'm a strong believer in the KISS principle. This one does what I need it to do -- comfortably carry multiple AK mags -- at a very competitive price. If you're looking for the same thing, you can't go wrong with this one. (Posted on 11/15/12)
