Please choose your particular gauge of shotgun ammunition above. Note that shotgun gauges use a very old measurement system for describing the different gauges of shot. Specifically, the number of lead balls of a given diameter necessary to make one pound of that size ball are how gauges are measured. As an example, 20 balls of 20 gauge diameter are needed to make one pound of such balls, giving the actual bore diameter of .615 inch=20 gauge. The same is true for 12 gauge shot, which equates to a bore diameter of .729 inch. Note that this is not true for 410 shot, which is not a gauge at all and is instead actually named for its nominal bore size.
