These .300 Win Mag rounds from Hornady's Superformance line are a prime choice for setting the table with some juicy big game that was dropped cleanly at long range. This cartridge recipe includes a large rifle magnum primer fitted into a reloadable brass casing charged with Hornady's proprietary Superformance powder; this leading propellant is proven to achieve 100 to 200 feet-per-second more muzzle velocity than other powders in the same charge weight without strengthening recoil and muzzle blast.

The result is a pleasant, proficient, and easily controlled hunting round with which a shooter can land accurate vital zone hits. Alongside the increased performance, these rounds maintain safe pressures for use in bolt-action rifles as well as semi-automatic "gas guns."

Each of these .300 Winchester Magnum cartridges is topped by Hornady's own Gilding Metal eXpanding (GMX) bullet which weighs in at 180 grains and consists of a monolithic (one piece of uniform material) body with a hollow cavity covered by a plastic tip. The tip acts as a windshield for reduced drag in flight and presses back into the hollow-point upon impact in order to initiate expansion and create a devastating wound tract in game while transferring maximum energy to the target and reducing the risk of overpenetration.

Unlike other monolithic bullet compositions, the GMX projectile is made from a mix of 95% copper and 5% zinc which decreases the amount of fouling left behind in the barrel. The GMX also possesses double cannelures with pressure relief grooves that maintain crimped position, preserve precision, and reduce barrel wear.
