With its silvery finish and sapphire-blue tip, the Terminal Ascent certainly looks like a pinnacle big game hunting bullet – and appearances, in this case, aren’t deceiving.

This 308 Win cartridge by Federal features a match grade 175 grain bullet. Its Slipstream polymer tip, long and sleek profile, and boat tail all limit how much turbulence the Terminal Ascent can generate in flight. Alongside its AccuChannel grooves the bullet attains a 0.520 G1 ballistic coefficient (G7 0.258). That is sufficient to keep its velocity above 1,950 fps at 400 yards, at which point it still strikes with the energy you want for humane elk hunting.

Its Slipstream helps the Terminal Ascent initiate expansion even at measly terminal velocities – on average 200 fps slower than other polymer tipped bullets. As the Terminal Ascent bores into dense tissues at lower velocities its five petals reliably peel back to exert fantastic energy outward. At higher velocities its terminal performance more resembles that of a soft point, yet still plenty deadly to hoofed things.

Federal tends to ignition with their match grade Gold Medal primer and specially formulated propellant. They top it all off with a nickel-plated brass case, at once smooth feeding and resistant to the corrosion which damp hunting grounds threaten.
