You know that Freddy Mercury song, the one where he sings “We are the champions” over and over? He was wrong – these 40 S&W cartridges are the champions, because they’ll give you total reign over the pistol range and better yet cost only very little!

But how does Federal manage to make a Champion round so cost-effective? Inferior components? Sloppy loading techniques? Nothing of the sort – this is Federal, an American industry leader, that we’re talking about here. No, this round is so easy on the wallet thanks to its aluminum shell casing.

Aluminum is significantly more affordable than brass, and Federal knows how to heat treat the metal to ensure it extracts with all due ease from a semi-auto. The primary downside to substituting the strong, lightweight metal for traditional brass is that it’s non-reloadable. But suppose you didn’t plan to handload this ammo anyway?

Federal’s 180 grain bullet is a FMJ, optimized for smooth feeding, less barrel fouling, accurate flight, and little else. You won’t want to use this ammo for self-defense if you’ve got JHP ammo on hand, which you always should. This round’s propellant and primer deal a consistent 1,000 fps muzzle velocity, so you’ll be able to get the results you intend to get every time you draw a line on your target. Handy stuff if you want to become more competent with your handgun!
