This .44 Special ammunition from ProGrade is specially designed for the needs of cowboy action shooters and fires a 200 grain round nose bullet. The lead bullet works well with steel targets as well as the single-action revolvers and lever-action rifles popular for Western shooting sports.

Although commonly associated with cowboy action shooting today, the .44 Special is actually a 20th century upgrade of older 19th century designs. Introduced in 1908 by Smith & Wesson, it was developed from the earlier .44 Russian and .44 S&W American cartridges which appeared from 1870 onwards.

ProGrade is a Montana-based manufacturer of higher-end ammunition. The company divides its products into "grades" for various shooting purposes, with varying cartridge designs and price points in each grade. Naturally, this ammo fits into the "cowboy grade."

This ammo uses non-corrosive Boxer primers and brass cases.
