Like the AK itself, this ammo was made in Russia. You may already know what that means: 122 grain full metal jackets that will attract a magnet and are accordingly banned at more than a couple of commercial ranges. The lead-core bullet’s bi-metal jacket is almost completely made out of steel (with a wafer thin coating of copper wash on its exterior). But on the plus side, a bullet which has virtually zero copper is also more affordable!

Essential Steel series ammo even further lives up to its name thanks to its solid steel cases. An AK should have no trouble feeding and extracting steel cases (even if they do accelerate fouling of the rifle’s action), but make no mistake: You’re wasting your time if you attempt to reload steel cases.

Some folks are apprehensive about Berdan primers because they suspect them of being corrosive. That’s really only a concern when it comes to Soviet era surplus. This ammo is brand new and noncorrosive!
