This 7.62x39 ammo by Hornady American Gunner is designed to turn an AK-47 into a sharpshooter’s weapon. You won’t necessarily be picking off 1,000 yard targets, but you’ll have an easier time grouping HP Match bullets over reasonable distances!

This round’s 123 grain bullet is optimized for accuracy. You would have to get pretty scientific to find a flaw in Hornady’s concentric AMP jacket, which extends around the base to prevent deformation to the core during ignition. The HP Match’s base is also angled into a boat tail to reduce in-flight drag. The AMP jacket’s sleek secant ogive profile further lessens drag to the point where this bullet can stay supersonic past 500 yards!

The HP Match’s swaged lead core is formed inside of the jacket to conform perfectly to it. This improves in-flight stability for greater accuracy still. Note that this particular bullet only superficially resembles the kind of hollow point bullet that is designed for terminal expansion. This bullet would still hurt when it hits, that’s for certain, but it won’t mushroom outward like a specialized hunting or self-defense bullet.

This American-made round has a brass case instead of a steel one. As such it’s a bit gentler on the action and seals it up better upon ignition. This round’s Boxer primer makes it good for reloading, and its propellant burns up clean to deliver a predictable 2,350 fps muzzle velocity out of a 20 inch barrel.
