Finally, my AR47 WORKS!!!
I suffered through every malfunction known to man, using cheap, russian steel cased ammunition. I made every modification known to man on my AR47 - EXCEPT - dremeling the feed ramp divider in the chamber. But before butchering my beloved home-build, I thought I would bite the bullet and buy higher priced brass cased ammunition. I have had very good success with Fiocchi for pistol an shotgun ammunition, and their 7.62x39 was the best priced on Lucky Gunner. Loaded it up, and "Voila!" It fired flawlessly! I plan to sell my russian ammo to some AK freak at a discount, just to get some $$ back for my troubles. Otherwise it's Fiocchi for me all the way. Yes, once I have run several hundred brass rounds, I will surely give the russians another shot, but meanwhile, I am very pleased to have my beautiful "30 cal" running consistently in a totally reliable manner. Life is good!
Went away from steel to brass.
After installing a scope on my SKS I was disappointed with the groups I was getting with the cheap steel Russian ammo. Tried the Fiocchi. Groups didn't improve much until after my third shot, when the barrel started to warm, then they shot better. Let the barrel cool again and the results were the same. Oh well still like the fact that its brass and anymore barrel wear should stop. Price was good for what you get.
I have used various Fiocchi products for some years. Quality and accuracy are on par with similar domestic and imported ammo brands. Most important, it functions flawlessly in my Mini 30 which is something I can't always say about the less expensive (not by much) steel cased ammo with the harder primers. Excellent value.
Excellent for the AR 15 Platform
7.62x 39 as you know is used on the AK and SKS platforms. There are manufacturers who are making dedicated AR 15 uppers chambered in 7.62x39 with an enhanced firing pin ( longer). Fiocchi ammo will work fine in the AR platform due to the primers being flush with the base of the round, This is not true of some of the cheaper stuff
( Herters ) as an example where the primer location wildly varies in depth to the base. Herters work fine in an AK or SKS due to the aggressive firing pin architecture. .
Consistent, accurate and....reloadable!
If you're plinking with the AK or SKS outdoors you may want cheap steel ammo. But when it comes to indoor sight ins or when an accurate shot counts, look no further. These are loaded a little warmer than the steel ammo and cycle without any issues. I have reloaded these a few times to justify the cost and the pockets are tight enough to accept many firings. Yes, they are expensive-er, but, if you want the best .....
