A: Thanks for reaching out Norman! This is true low-recoil ammo. You see, handgun recoil is determined by several factors, but two of the most important ones are muzzle velocity and bullet weight. This low-recoil cartridge has the essentially the same muzzle velocity as Hornady's normal Critical Defense 9mm 115gr ammo – yet its bullet is about 13% lighter. Since the M&P 9mm weighs 24.7 oz, I estimate that this 100gr round will generate 3.88 ft lbs of recoil energy. In comparison, the 115gr round should generate 4.97 ft lbs of recoil energy. This is not an extreme difference, and I cannot guarantee what kind of experience your wife will have, but I do expect she will indeed notice lighter felt recoil if you choose this ammo for her.
I likewise cannot guarantee perfect performance in a handgun I have not personally tested, although Hornady is without question one of America's best ammo manufacturers. I fully expect that your wife's M&P will fire and cycle this ammo flawlessly.
