These 9x18mm loads are perfect for practice, carry, and training drills with a Makarov PM or the copy of your choosing. Silver Bear ammunition is made at the Barnaul plant in Russia and therefore follows the most reliable recipes compatible due to proximity with the caliber's birthplace. As such, this ammo will function just fine in CZ-82s, FEG PA-63s, and Polish P-64s. Each round is built using a non-reloadable steel casing which helps cut down costs and pass savings to the shooters. The casings are coated with zinc in order to fight rust while in storage as well as to soften the impact of steel casings on extractors and chambers.

The case is equipped with a non-corrosive Berdan primer and a 94-grain jacketed hollow point (JHP) projectile. 94 grains is very close to Eastern Bloc military specifications and helps meet the minimum standards of penetration for personal defense without exhibiting excess recoil. Upon impact, the bullet is designed to expand in a target which will cause it to yaw during entry. As a result, the bullet will deliver more of its energy to vital organs without the risk of overpenetration. Each projectile is treated with a ring of sealant at its crimp zone which helps preserve function and integrity during long-term storage.

Ballistics Test Summary

As part of our ongoing self-defense ammo testing project, we used Clear Ballistics synthetic gelatin to evaluate the performance of Silver Bear 94 Grain. Five rounds were fired from a Glock 42 w/ conversion bbl into the gel with a four-layer cloth barrier to simulate an attacker wearing heavy clothing.

The top image in the photo above shows the first round fired into the gel and the bottom photo displays all five rounds. Below on the left, you can see what the bullets look like after they were recovered from the gel. To the right of that, you’ll find a high-speed video of the first round fired into the gel. At the bottom of the page, we’ve got a chart with all the data from our Silver Bear 94 Grain test along with a couple of charts that show how this load compared to other 9mm Makarov (9x18mm) loads.

Q: Do you know if it is a copper jacket or is it a steel blend? My local range is very particular about no steel in the jacket at all.

A: Hi Jacob! This round's bullet definitely has steel in its jacket. I'm afraid pretty much any steel-cased pistol ammo we offer will have magnetic bullets. This ammo by Fiocchi does meet your range's requirements, though: luckygunner.com/9x18-makarov-95gr-fmj-fiocchi-50-round. I hope that helps!

Q: This 1000 round 94 grain JHP lists 1135 fps and 270 ft lbs of muzzle energy, but the (apparently) same round you sell in a box of 50 shows 1000 fps and 209 ft lbs. Are these both accurate? I prefer to test 50 or 100 rounds before investing in a case, but these appear to be very different rounds.
