The Hornady A-MAX was Hornady's premier match bullet, featuring a secant ogive profile with a red polymer tip. The streamlined design provided exceptional ballistic coefficients for long-range accuracy, while the polymer tip protected the bullet during loading and improved ballistic consistency. A-MAX bullets dominated competition shooting and precision rifle work for years. Note: Hornady has largely replaced the A-MAX line with the newer ELD Match bullets, which use Heat Shield tips that don't deform at high velocities. A-MAX remains available in some calibers and is still highly regarded.

FAQ
A-MAX vs ELD Match?
ELD Match is the successor to A-MAX with improved Heat Shield tips that maintain their shape at high velocities. For new purchases, ELD Match is generally preferred. A-MAX remains excellent for velocities under ~2,800 fps where tip deformation isn't an issue.
Can A-MAX be used for hunting?
Not recommended. A-MAX bullets have thin jackets optimized for accuracy, not terminal performance. They may expand too aggressively or fragment on game. Use Hornady's SST, ELD-X, or Interbond for hunting.
