This round is armed with a 1-1/8 ounce rifled slug, which you may already know is specifically designed for a smoothbore barrel. The solid lead slug’s hollow base features an integrated wad. The red plastic wad remains attached to the slug throughout the entirety of its trajectory, thus assuring the projectile stays stable and pointed nose-first at its target.
This is a high-velocity shell, with a slug that clears the muzzle at a rate of 1,600 fps. That keeps its trajectory relatively flat, and also ensures that the projectile reaches 100 yards with just shy of 900 ft lbs of kinetic energy – more than sufficient to get the job done so long as your aim is on point. This round’s 2-3/4” high-brass hull is roll-crimped, so you would need an overshot card if you wanted to handload it.
