Simple! Also known as “TTT” shot (as printed on this Magtech 20 Gauge ammo’s packaging), F shot is 0.22” in diameter and occasionally used for hunting the largest of waterfowl. To put that into context, BBB shot is 0.19” in diameter; #4 buckshot is 0.24” diameter; and 00 buckshot is 0.33” diameter.
Now, here is the most important thing to keep in mind about this ammo: It is not intended for waterfowl hunting. That’s solely because its 26 F shot pellets are made of lead. It therefore doesn’t comply with the nontoxic shot requirement enforced around migratory bird waterways.
Since the F shot pellet is only 0.02” narrower in diameter than #4 buckshot, we are marketing this non-waterfowl ammo as buckshot. It’s a fine choice for fun-time target shooting. It’s an eradicator of predators, and could drop a deer within reasonable circumstances. It’s also practical for home defense, especially if you are attempting to reduce the risk of over-penetration.
The F shot pellet’s lighter weight grants it less momentum that it otherwise would have used to penetrate flesh. That’s not to say this ammo can’t punch through a threat and/or multiple walls; only that it has a lower likelihood of doing so than an otherwise comparable 00 buck load.
