This 20 Gauge shell by Remington is the ultimate treat for the deer or hog slug hunter. That’s because its 250 grain sabot slug is a TTSX by Barnes – one of, if not the best, monolithic copper expanding projectiles on the market.

This round’s TTSX is set in a plastic sabot so it can engage with a rifled shotgun barrel’s rifling, granting it keen accuracy out of the muzzle. The TTSX’s uniformly distributed weight and pointed polymer tip only improve upon its ballistic coefficient. And with its 1,825 fps muzzle velocity, this shell’s slug can cover a lot of ground fast.

When it meets its target, the TTSX’s tip smashes into its underlying nose cavity. The durable copper projectile penetrates very deeply, resisting fragmentation to retain its original mass. Shortly after impact the TTSX begins to protrude six razor-like petals that track devastating wound channels in their wake, leading to one exceptionally dead deer or hog.

This shell’s slug is lead-free, so it won’t run afoul of Californian bullet laws nor introduce heavy metals into your quarry’s meat. Remington’s hull, head, propellant, and primer are all matched perfectly to so high-performing a projectile, making this one of the end-all hunting rounds for shotgunners!

Please note: A sabot slug will deliver garbage accuracy out of a smoothbore shotgun. The projectile will turn sideways in a phenomenon called “keyholing,” compromising its sectional density and potential for deep penetration. Sabots are for rifled barrels; Rifled slugs are for smoothbores (as counterintuitive as it might sound).
