This shell is packed with 3/4 ounces of #7 steel shot: 316 individual 1/10” diameter pellets, which will do unkind things to their target after they have erupted out of the barrel at a silly-fast muzzle velocity of 1,425 fps. Steel’s not as dense as lead (about 69% as dense as lead, if you want to get technical), but that wicked hot MV does a whole lot to compensate for its physical shortcomings.
This shell’s shot doesn’t just hit hard and penetrate deep. It also exhibits a tight, efficient pattern: a testament to the quality of Remington’s full-length wad, as well as the rigid steel pellets’ inability to deform under pressure. Remington bills this ammo as a proper choice for waterfowl – which it is, at nearer distances – though it would also serve well for taking smaller non-waterfowl birds, and even squirrels and rabbits.
