Lead is about 11 g/cc in density (meaning one cubic centimeter of it weighs ~11 grams). Tungsten Super Shot, on the other hand, is 18 g/cc (hence the Hevi-18). In other words, a #6 TSS pellet would weigh around 63% more than a lead pellet of the same size.
But this shell is not loaded with #6 shot. It is loaded with #9 – and because those TSS pellets are so dense, they strike with about as much force as #6 lead.
The advantage of hunting turkey with unusually small shot? An unusually thick pattern, of course. Had this shell been loaded with 13/16 ounces of #6 lead, it would contain around 183 shot pieces. But thanks to the outstanding density of tungsten, it holds 295 pellets instead!
