Ballistic gelatin testing is one way to get an idea of how a self-defense load might perform in a real world self-defense situation. So we fired five rounds of Magtech 230 gr Bonded from a Kahr CW45 from a distance of 10 feet into a block of synthetic ballistic gel with a barrier of four layers of fabric simulating heavy clothing. We then gathered information on the expansion and penetration characteristics of this load. That data is represented in the chart below.
How this load compares to other .45 ACP loads from our tests in regards to bullet expansion and penetration can be found in the diagrams at the bottom of the page.
We also took photos of each bullet that was recovered from the gelatin, seen in the photo slider below. The high speed video shows this round impacting the ballistic gelatin at 5000 frames per second.

Great Home Defense 45 acp ammo...
Review by 1Nimrod
This Magtech ammo is great out of my Para P14-45 Black Ops with a 5" barrel. I have been able too get a nice 3" or less group at 20 yards resting on the bench in 70° temp and no wind. Not one misfire or stove pipe with over 400+ rounds out of my Para P14-45. The performance of this Magtech 45 auto FD Bounded 230 gr. JHP Bullets are great and I would recommend them for serious Home Defense Ammo. Some advice... It's always best to test several different types of 45 acp ammo to see what type and brand performs the best in your Pistols.

After reviewing the recent ballistics tests performed by Lucky Gunner, I thought I might run this ammo through my Glock 30s and my Sig C3. This ammo appeared to have tested well and was reasonably priced at a little over 55 cents per round. Unfortunately I found these rounds quite inaccurate in both guns, with a couple hits dead center and then a number of rounds all over the map. Disappointing...

I tested a lot of jhp Bullets, this is one of the best I tried. I tested on my Sig p220 Elite. 150 shoots, not a fault and very accurate.
