#2 Buckshot is about 6.86 mm (0.270") in diameter. It is used for hunting medium game, such as coyotes.

While it can be used for defense purposes, it is not ideal due to the amount of shot and the spread pattern. It also comes in steel shot for areas that ban lead, though it is much less popular due to its reduced penetration at greater ranges.
