Appropriately enough, a Winchester Double X shell has two features which promote extremely narrow patterning. The first are the #5 shot pellets themselves: all copper plated, which makes them considerably harder – a state in which they resist deformation that otherwise could have widened their pattern or shortened their penetration through turkey. The second is the shell’s Grex buffering: tiny little pieces of supple plastic, which keep the shot pellets from mashing into one another and losing sphericity under ignition.
This isn’t news to you, but the 10 Gauge is one powerful mama. This round proves it, as its 2-ounce shot column and 1,300 ft lbs muzzle velocity can easily deliver over 3,000 ft lbs of kinetic energy to its target at close range.
