This shell is charged up with the heaviest shot payload a target load can have and still comply with competition rules. It’s “light” because its muzzle velocity falls on the more sluggish end of the spectrum. The shell’s MV still qualifies as supersonic at 1,145 fps, but it also generates the 2-3/4 dram equivalent which necessarily coincides with lighter recoil.
This shell’s #8 shot doesn’t just pattern efficiently because it is essentially perfectly spherical, as well as made of rigid lead-antimony alloy. It is also cupped by Winchester’s famous AA wad, which flattens down across its hinged midsection to soften felt recoil and further minimize shot pellet deformation. A perfect system!
