Winchester’s AA series ammo has dominated American trap and sporting clays ranges since time immemorial (technically 1965). This hard-hitting shell is loaded with high-quality lead-antimony alloy #8 shot. It’s hard as nails (not technically, but still), and it’s doubly protected against deformation by Winchester’s special AA wad.
Break a shell open and you can admire the AA wad’s hinged midsection with your own eyes. It squashes down like a pancake on ignition so as to improve pattern density and mitigate felt recoil. You’ll be so impressed that you’ll say “AA!”
This is indeed a light target load: a normal 1-1/8 ounces of shot, albeit with a 1,145 fps muzzle velocity. That’s not an abnormally low MV by any measure, but the resultant 2-3/4 dram equivalent is indicative of lower recoil – way lower than a buckshot or duck hunting load, at least.
