This shotgun shell is only low-recoil relative to other conventional rifled slug hunting ammo. It still kicks harder than a trap load, because it’s loaded with 1 ounce of lead, a long collapsible recoil-absorbing plastic wad, and enough powder to break the speed of sound by a good 275 fps. It’s not even low-recoil to a degree that interferes with semi-automatic operation, per Winchester.
Thanks to Winchester’s thoughtfully provided ballistic data, we were able to calculate the slug’s G1 BC at 0.072. Here’s what that translates to vis-à-vis long-range (relatively speaking) performance:
0yds: 1,300 fps | 1,642 ft lbs | -1.5”
50yds: 1,043 fps | 1,057 ft lbs | 3.3”
100yds: 912 fps | 808 ft lbs | 0.0”
150yds: 823 fps | 658 ft lbs | -13.6”
200yds: 750 fps | 547 ft lbs | -40.1”
Remember! Rifled slugs are for smoothbore shotguns!
