Remington does make low-recoil Ultimate Defense shotshells. This is not one of them. The 2-3/4” shell is loaded with nine pellets of 00 buck instead of eight. It is also loaded to a muzzle velocity of 1,325 fps instead of 1,200. You will feel it when you fire this shell, and Remington’s hard lead double-aught will pattern tightly out of your smoothbore’s barrel. If the entire ~1-1/10oz. shot column strikes its target at close range, it will simultaneously transfer about five times more kinetic energy to it than a single 9mm bullet. It will inflict nine times the would channels, too.
Remington takes this shell’s home defense application seriously, and so they load high-quality components that assure reliable functionality. This 3-1/2 dram equivalent ammo should cycle a semi-auto just fine. We advise testing it out before relying on it.
