But this 12 Gauge shell isn’t one of Hevi’s high-tech (i.e. expensive) bismuth or tungsten hunting loads. It’s actually their initial foray into the world of steel shot, and it proves that they’re off on the right foot.
This shell is loaded with Hevi’s own precision steel pellets. They are every bit as dense as any other steel pellets at 7.8 g/cc, but they are also plated to protect against the corrosion that awaits in damp waterfowl habitat.
A Hevi-Steel shell doesn’t just carry a narrow pattern thanks to its uniform, deformation-proof and corrosion-resistant steel shot. It also features its manufacturer’s best-in-class wad, so you’re assured that a healthy percentage of its 172 pellets will hit their target.
This may go without saying, but a 3-1/2” magnum load with 1-3/8 ounces of shot and a 1,550 fps muzzle velocity is immensely powerful (5 dram equivalent). Not exactly the kind of shell a recoil-averse shooter might prefer, but easily capable of reaching way out to the most distant of ducks and persuading it to make an unscheduled landing.
