This round is loaded with the 17 HMR’s middleweight 17 grain projectile. It will explode out of a rifle’s barrel at a velocity of 2,530 fps, which means it’ll retain over 100 ft lbs of quick-killing energy beyond 100 yards. The jacketed hollow point works on the same principle as most self-defense handgun rounds’ bullets: as soon as its little nose cavity gets packed full of soft tissue, it forces the whole JHP to mushroom. There will probably be some fragmentation at closer ranges, which only makes matters worse for the critter.
These flat-shooting rounds feature uniform propellant charges and primers that won’t leave you guessing at what’s going to happen after you’ve squeezed the trigger, as well as cases which don’t trip up smooth functionality in rifles and pistols.
