Waterfowl hunters are used to compromising when it comes to selecting nontoxic shot. Steel shot typically has a density in the neighborhood of 8 g/cc – not terrible, but not nearly as good as lead which has a density of 11 g/cc.

But tungsten shot is a whole different story. This 20 Gauge HEVI-XII shotshell by Hevi-Shot is loaded with 12 g/cc density #6 shot pellets. They are so dense that they deliver the same amount of lethal energy as #3 steel shot pellets – but since this shell is loaded with smaller #6 shot pellets, its pattern is significantly denser. This shell puts an average of 28% more pellets on target! And because tungsten is nontoxic, this ammo is legal wherever lead loads have been banned for hunting.
