All that glitters is not gold – but just because something’s not gold doesn’t mean it’s not good. Take Remington’s 22 Golden Bullet line of 22 LR ammunition, for example. This round’s 36 grain projectile is clad in a thin layer of copper alloy, which promotes reliable feeding and significantly reduces the rate at which a firearm’s bore fouls with lead.
The bullet’s hollow point nose cavity does make it ever so slightly less aerodynamic, but it also enables it to widen out upon entering a varmint’s soft body. The bullet is a little lighter than normal at 36 grains. Less inertia means the projectile will clear a rifle’s barrel at a rate of 1,280 fps. It will cycle a semi-automatic, make a sharp cracking report, and continue on to follow a flat trajectory which will remain supersonic until approximately 40 yards.
