Aguila Target Competition 22 LR – perfect not only for demonstrating the superiority of your marksmanship, but also for those situations where you’d like to plink without making too much of a ruckus.

This match load features a 40 grain bullet and muzzle velocity of 1,080 fps. That’s subsonic, and that’s advantageous for two big reasons. First of all, this round solves the problem of “transonic destabilization” – the phenomenon where a bullet begins wobbling as its velocity becomes slower than the speed of sound (~1,125 fps). If the bullet is never supersonic to begin with, it can’t become transonic! Second of all, a bullet which never accelerates faster than the speed of sound can’t produce a loud crack when it leaves the muzzle. You should still wear ear protection, but you won’t upset the neighbors.

This Mexican-made cartridge’s bullet is a simple lead round nose. It is aerodynamic, balanced, and concentric enough to create a tight seal against the bore. This ammo’s trajectories are highly consistent, although its slower muzzle velocity does mean faster bullet drop and insufficient chamber pressure to cycle a semi-auto. Aguila is regarded as one of the world’s best 22 LR manufacturers and loads rimfire primers and brass cases befitting of that reputation. Order a case and judge for yourself!
