Barnaul traces their roots back to the 1800s. They played central roles in both World Wars, and today they load a range of ammunition for the commercial market as well as Russia’s own military. We’re not sure if the Russian military has any real use for 30-06, but Americans sure know what do do with it!

This cartridge has a 140 grain bullet – a soft point, to be exact, which utilizes a cost-effective design that facilitates rapid terminal expansion within soft tissue. Importantly, this round has a bimetal jacket, so it does contain steel that will attract a magnet.

Barnaul also avoids using valuable copper when they make this ammo’s cases. They are made of pure steel, which alongside their Berdan primers make them essentially useless at a reloading bench. Steel cases will save you money, though, and you can still expect them to feed and extract easily when they are coated in a thin layer of heat-resistant polymer. And while it may be magnetic, this ammo is 100 percent non-corrosive!
