I've been looking for these Yugo magazines (or other E. European steel) for a long time. I have steel magazines from 3 other former eastern block countries, but like the Yugoslavian ones the best (my rifle is of Yugoslavian decent). They arrived less than 48 hours after I ordered them, were well packaged, and coated in varying amounts of cosmoline. I used the mineral spirits method (about an hour) in a disposable roasting pan and it worked very well. I disassembled and cleaned them, gave a light coat of Rem Oil, and painted the exterior (masking off all areas that directly contact the rifle). They look and work great! Very happy with the service and quality of products I received from Lucky Gunner.
I would buy again
After researching steel mags these for a good price and bought three. I also ordered some ammo and a couple ammo cans with my order. Everything was packed well and shipped in the same box. The mags were individually wrapped in plastic and coated in cosmo. I opened them up, stripped them, and put them in a throw away roasting tin on my grill and boiled off the cosmo. After wiping off the excess and oiling them up ever so slightly they were ready to go. The mags did show use but nothing major and were in as good of shape as expected. If you really wanted to you could refinish them. I have not refinished mine, they were just fine once cleaned and oiled. All three mags fit and function perfectly with my Arsenal SLR. I have also used P-mags a top brand and must say they have a strong preference for these steel mags in comparison. I will be purchasing more of these with my next ammo order if they still have them.
I ordered 15 when they were on sale a few weeks ago. I really didn't need more but the sale price made me get some more. They're all great, cosmoline was light, only moderately heavy on 2-3. I even had an M64 mag mixed in.
A no brainer for use in a Yugo or Serbian AK
The magazines are exactly as advertised. They come tightly wrapped in thick plastic with cosmoline inside to prevent rust. This was easy to remove with a plastic tub, disassembly, mineral spirits, & a bottle brush. No rust, good condition, & flawless function. Bolt holds open after last round every time. They fit perfectly in my new NPAP. Arrived 2 days after placing order. What's not to love?
Awesome and Reliable Magazines
Thank you Luckygunner for having these products available when others don't. I'm referring to the Yugoslavian Bolt Hold Open 7.62x 39 30 round magazines that I have purchased. I had no problem removing the Cosmoline. I did test out some of the mags at my local indoor rifle range. I knew it's capability and reliability from the start. If anyone is interested in getting these. Purchase them from Lucky Gunner!!!
Reliable whether it has a bolt hold on or not
Reliable! I ordered (5) five Yugoslavian magazines with bolt hold open. The first thing I did was take all and stripped it to pieces in an organized cleaning process on a large cooking pot of boiling water, to remove all cosmoline , which were caked in and out of magazines. Once boiled out I then wipe all excess residue using rags and Q-tip swap for those tight spaces. It isn't that hard to clean. I am finicky because its almost like a habit to take care of all my "tools". . So far it has functioned flawlessly and acknowledge that in my collection, it is very reliable to use.
To be honest, I have used these yet with my AK platform. I focused on cleaning that darned cosmoline off first. (I tried the boiling method first, and wasn't too impressed.) So I took them to a gun shop that I used and had them re-blued. His initial cleaning method before blueing (chemicals) took the cosmoline right off, according to him. They look Brand New now. But when you first get them, yes of course, they have marks and scratches and wearing. (They're used, after all. LOL.) I'll let you know more when I start feeding live rounds through them.
Impressive Metal AK Mags
I have been stocking up on various AK mags and was happy to have a chance to add these metals ones to my collections. They arrives sealed in plastic to keep the cosmoline off everything they would touch. However, once you unwrap these bad boys all bets are off. I had the chance to research how to clean off cosmoline, since this would be my first attempt and I will say that boiling parts in hot water only works if EVERYTHING is outside. Since you're going to be outside in the first place, just go buy some mineral spirits and a shallow plastic basin to rinse everything through. Once I cleaned everything up, took it all apart and made sure it was free of cosmoline, I re-assembled it and loaded up my snap caps to run them through my AK. The bolt holds open perfectly at the end of each mag, and like a previous comment, WATCH YOUR FINGERS WHEN YOU RELEASE THE MAG. The *ONLY* detractor was one of the bottoms of the mags was bent slightly, which made disassembly and reassembly slightly difficult and I was able to slightly fix it with some needle-nose pliers. That's the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 on Quality. Just be wary that these are USED mags and you will need to do some adjustments somewhere on something to make something else work better. Not a big deal but just so you aren't surprised.
Just received my order, fast turn around just. Ordered on Monday here by Thursday. A word about the magazines, they came sealed in a plastic bag packed with Cosmoline the best way that I got it off was I used my burner to melt it off. After they cooled down I took it apart wiped off some chard residue some lite oil and BAM! all done. These magazines I have looked new to never used. they do hold open the bolt after the last round is fired. Caution, once the magazine is removed the bolt will slam shut so watch your finger(s). and they fit tight in my GP 10/63 ak-47 no wobble or side to side movement, none!
Best AK Mags
Yugo magazines are simply the best AK magazines available and are the only magazines that reliably hold the bolt open after shooting the last round.
The cosmoline is a bit of a pain but worth keeping the rust off of them.
