The 300 AAC Blackout has only gotten more and more popular recently, so the Barnaul Cartridge Plant has gotten in on the game! This ammunition hails from Altai Krai, Russia, and it’s got the two key Russian features which drive price tags lower than temperatures during a Siberian winter.

The first among these is steel cases. Barnaul’s steel cases are coated with polymer to help them cycle through an AR without snagging up, and their polymer is formulated not to burn off under the blistering heat of ignition. Steel cases won’t do you any good for handloading, and they’ll probably let more fouling into your action, although Barnaul’s Berdan primers are every bit as non-corrosive as a standard American Boxer primer.

This round’s second cost-saving feature is its bimetal jacket. Its 145 grain bullet’s jacket is mostly made out of steel, with a thin copper wash on the exterior. It’s too soft to damage your rifle’s barrel, but as you may know many indoor ranges don’t like magnetic bullets.
