This cartridge’s jacketed hollow point bullet features a rigid brass jacket, which is durable enough to withstand high-velocity impact with barriers and threats alike. The bullet’s great weight retention enables effective deep penetration in a self defense situation. When the interior of its nose cavity becomes heavily pressurized, the BJHP’s notched jacket splits apart quickly, evenly and symmetrically to give rise to significant terminal expansion. And because the 125 grain bullet’s muzzle velocity is lower at 1,220 fps, it will kick up gentler recoil, reduce the risk of over-penetration, and still strike a close-range target with significantly more than the minimum energy commonly recommended for defensive applications.
This ammunition has sealed mouths and primers, corrosion-resistant nickel-plated brass cases, and flash-suppressed powder. That last feature is a welcome one if you would ever fire your revolver at night, as duller muzzle flash will help conserve your eyesight’s adjustment to dark surroundings.
