This is an overpressure cartridge: more powerful than a standard-pressure variant, albeit with more accompanying recoil. That’s well worth the cost of admission for a 38 Special bullet with 264 ft lbs muzzle energy (which we presume Remington recorded using a 4” vented test barrel).
The brass jacketed hollow point makes strategic use of its energy. The bullet readily overcomes barriers through the superior toughness of its jacket. It also bears a notched rim, which forces the BJHP to open up wide immediately after impact.
This ammo’s low-flash propellant does nothing special during the daytime. But at night, its softer muzzle flash can help you avoid becoming blinded by your initial shot. Very helpful if you would like to actually aim your follow-up shots!
Nickel-plated brass cases are smooth to speed up extraction from the cylinder (and support more reliable operation of a lever action as well). They are also resistant to corrosion; a good pairing for this ammo’s case mouths and primers, which are sealed.
