This is a powerful cartridge, with an extra generous helping of low-flash, low-recoiling powder. That’s why it’s got a “+P.” That’s also why it sends its 125 grain bullet at a surly velocity of 1,100 fps (out of a 4” barrel). Needless to say, your revolver must be rated for over-pressure ammo if you intend to run this stuff through it! (Safe for all lever-action carbines.)
This round’s JHP is designed to expand at low and high velocities alike. That’s the work of its special core, which is aggressively serrated so it can split apart evenly even with relatively little force. The JHP’s copper jacket is thick to prevent fragmentation (and the poorer penetration which results). All that plus a nickel-plated brass case for added protection against corrosion!
