This is overpressure 38 Special ammunition: +P, which means it’s not safe for antiques. Any 38 Special revolver made before 1972 most likely can’t handle +P, but nearly all modern ones can. Check your revolver’s manual or consult its manufacturer if you’re unsure. Any 357 Mag revolver should run this ammo just fine, and it’s a suitable choice for any 357 Mag lever-action rifle as well.
A 125 grain bullet is a popular weight for personal protection with a 38. You’ll note more recoil from this ammo than you would with a standard pressure alternative, but it’s well worth it if you’re trying to hit your target as hard as you can. Upon clearing a 4” barrel, the bullet’s close-range striking energy is around 245 ft lbs – adequate for defensive applications.
This round’s bullet is a semi-jacketed hollow point. In addition to promoting deeper penetration into a soft medium, the partial jacket keeps the nose cavity unrestricted so it can spread out wider following lower-velocity impact.
Nickel-plated brass cases! They’re a little easier to see in the cylinder, they extract with less friction, and they resist the tarnishing effects of water and leather. This ammo is also reloadable, so keep those silvery shells with you once they’re empty.
