This 500 round case of .38 Special ammunition from Winchester delivers effective self-defense using a +P load that generates a high muzzle velocity of 945 feet per second from a 4-inch test barrel. This results in more consistent expansion (or "mushrooming"), an essential component of stopping an assailant quickly. The high pressure loading also produces additional recoil, a notable consideration for subcompact firearms.

These cartridges should only be used in firearms capable of withstanding +P pressures. They can be safely fired in .357 Magnum as well as .38 Special revolvers.
