This cartridge’s jacketed hollow point is a Core-Lokt in name and design. A ring around the inside of its jacket keeps it firmly embedded within its core. Weight retention’s not perfect, but it is assuredly sufficient for reaching whitetail ticker. The 44 Magnum’s immense striking power is only the first of said deer’s problems. The second is immense expansion, which can potentially double the JHP’s original diameter.
We calculated this round’s 240 grain bullet as having a 0.175 G1 ballistic coefficient, and believe Remington used a 4” vented barrel to record its 1,220 fps muzzle velocity. Based on that, we mathed up these ballistic data for you:
0yds: 1,220 fps | 793 ft lbs | -0.2”
25yds: 1,161 fps | 719 ft lbs | 0.7”
50yds: 1,111 fps | 658 ft lbs | 0.0”
75yds: 1,069 fps | 609 ft lbs | -2.4”
100yds: 1,032 fps | 568 ft lbs | -6.8”
Nickel-plated brass cases! We love those. They make the ammo shinier, smoother, and safer against the coarsening effects of corrosion.
