Please note: This ammo is not compatible with an AR-15! 5.45x39 is designed for the AK-74.

The Barnaul Cartridge Plant offers a few different lines of ammunition under their Bear label. Brown Bear has lacquer coated cases. Golden Bear has brass coated cases. And Silver Bear, which is the ammo you see here, has zinc coated cases.

This 5.45x39 round features an economical steel case, which is coated with zinc to reduce friction as it slips in and out of an AK-74’s chamber. Zinc also helps to stave off corrosion in storage – and it looks nice, if we may say so ourselves.

This round’s Berdan primer offers reliable ignition without introducing corrosive salts to a rifle’s action and bore. Just “bear” in mind that steel cases are nearly impossible to reload, and Berdan primers only make reloading even more inconvenient.

This round is crowned with a 65 grain full metal jacket bullet. Not to suggest you’d want to be hit by one, but an FMJ really does emphasize smooth feeding and reduced barrel leading over any kind of accented terminal performance. Like its case, this round’s bullet contains steel and is magnetic. Some indoor ranges don’t like that!
