Put all thoughts of Russia out of your head. This Red Army Standard 7.62x39 ammunition is not some archaic holdover from the USSR – nor was it made in Russia. It was recently manufactured at the Bishkek Stamping Plant in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and it’s all your AK-47 needs for target practice.

That said, if you’re already accustomed to Russian-made 7.62x39, then this cartridge holds no surprises in store for you. It is loaded with a 122 grain full metal jacket bullet, with a lead core and a bimetal jacket. The jacket is primarily made of steel, so make no mistake: this ammo will attract a magnet, and is accordingly unwelcome at many commercial rifle ranges.

Don’t worry about this ammo’s Berdan primers. They aren’t corrosive, and they don’t require a special firing pin. This ammo’s steel cases feature corrosion-resistant lacquer coatings, as well as sealed necks and primers. Steel cases are technically reloadable, but the process involved simply isn’t worth it. Leave them wherever they fall – a Lucky Gunner customer has better things to do with their time!
