Want to fire your AK-47 all day and still have money left over for vodka and borscht? Then you’re going to love Red Army Standard’s Russian-made ammunition, which takes advantage of the cost-saving features of steel to make range time more affordable.

This round’s 124 grain FMJBT bullet has a bimetal jacket. Its jacket is coated with copper, but it’s made of magnetic steel on the inside. Make sure your indoor range is okay with that beforehand. This bullet also has a boat tail, a drag-reducing feature that keeps its velocity higher and its trajectory flatter over greater distances.

This round’s case is also made of steel. Between that and its Berdan primer, which unlike a Boxer has two flash holes instead of one, you’re not going to have any luck reloading a steel case. Still, a steel case runs smoothly through a semi-auto when it’s coated with heat-resistant polymer, and although designed differently a Berdan primer works every bit as well as the more conventional Boxer.

This ammo’s polymer coating helps it resist corrosion during storage as well. Red Army Standard additionally protects each round’s neck and primer with purple sealant, so you can keep this ammo fresh for a long time if you keep it away from light, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures.
