Governments come and go, but the Barnaul Cartridge Plant always stays the same. The factory was founded in St. Petersburg under Alexander II, supplied the Russian Army during WWI, relocated to Podolsk during WWII, and relocated yet again to Barnaul during the Great Patriotic War. Throughout it all Barnaul has become one of the world’s leading producers of affordable steel cased ammunition.

This 9mm Makarov ammo is very affordable thanks to all of its lacquered steel case. Its steel shell casing allows Barnaul to avoid the production of expensive brass altogether, and once coated with polymer helps to reduce the kind of friction that can cause a Pakarov PM to jam. The round’s 94 grain FMJ bullet has what we call a bimetal jacket – steel on the inside, copper on the outside, at once strong, economical, and clean shooting.

Will you be able to reload these rounds’ steel cases? No. Will every indoor range welcome their magnetic bullets? Also no. But for all the savings this ammo represents those are hardly glaring problems, and you can count on Barnaul’s non-corrosive Berdan primer and smokeless propellant to greatly reduce fouling inside your handgun.

Please note: 9mm Makarov is a different cartridge from what we commonly refer to as “9mm” in America. Your Glock 17 will not work with this ammo!
